Kid Volt Knockout

live

A boxing game I built for phones, from a study of the 16-bit boxing classics. Kid Volt fights Disco Danny on a rooftop dance floor. Danny throws every punch on the beat of a disco loop, and during a real wind-up a sparkle marks where he’s open. Punch that spot to counter and charge your super: one charge is a Volt Hook, three is a Supernova. Dodge, duck or hold block, hit him as he sways back to center when he’s dizzy, and put him down three times for a TKO before the fight clock runs out. Every pixel is drawn into a 120 by 140 frame, and every sound is synthesised in the browser.

What it does

  • Danny punches on the beat: 104 beats a minute to start, 116 after his first knockdown and 128 for the last dance.
  • A counter charges half a super, and saving three charges unlocks the Supernova.
  • The fight clock starts at 3:00, runs one and a half times faster than real time, and stops while Danny is dizzy.
  • Three knockdowns is a TKO, and your fastest win is kept on your device as your best KO time.
